Leicester tell Man Utd how much Harry Maguire will cost NINE months on from £75m bid
MANCHESTER UNITED have been told by Leicester that a bid of £75m will not be enough to buy Harry Maguire in the summer.
Leicester are expecting a bid in the region of £90million before they will consider letting Harry Maguire move on.
The 26-year-old England defender is one of United’s main transfer targets as the club look to improve their defensive ranks.
There were reports that United had been preparing a £65m bid for Maguire but according to the Daily Star the Red Devils have already offered more than this last summer.
The Star claimed United put in an official bid of £75m after the World Cup in Russia.
England had low expectations going into the tournament but impressive performances, including from Maguire, saw the Three Lions reach their first semi-final for 28 years.
Unfortunately England lost 2-1 to Croatia after an extra-time strike from Mario Mandzukic, but the display from many players in the squad saw their values rise.
In a bid to keep Maguire at Leicester, the Foxes offered the defender an improved contract in September and his new contract now runs until June 2023.
Leicester are demanding a world-record fee if they are even to consider parting ways with Maguire and United might be forced to scale a bid of £90m to secure his services.
One man who does want to see the deal go through is interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 45-year-old Norwegian is currently the favourite to get the job on a permanent basis after he completely changed the fortunes of the club during his short tenure at the club.
Solskjaer wants United to continue their pursuit of Maguire as he looks ahead to building his squad for next season.

Maguire is interested in a move to Old Trafford, as he would be in line to double this wages to £140,000 per week, reports the Star.
If United are unable to agree a fee with Leicester they could turn their attention to Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
The 27-year-old has been on United’s radar for a long time and with their scouts being highly impressed with the Senegal star’s performances.
