Gareth Bale spotted near Old Trafford – could Man Utd chief Woodward ask him about a move?
GARETH BALE has been linked with a move to Manchester United for several seasons, but the Welsh winger was at Old Trafford for a different reason this morning.
Manchester United should SWAP Sanchez for Bale claims pundit
Bale is a long-term target of United and has consistently been linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past few transfer windows.
While his wages – reportedly £650,000-a-week – are a stumbling block for any move, this does not stop speculation building over a potential switch from Real Madrid.
And United fans could be forgiven for getting fresh hope of a deal after seeing Bale arrive in Manchester last night.
However, the winger is merely in the area on international duty as Wales prepare to take on Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly.
Bale and his international team-mates are staying at Hotel Football, owned by United legend Gary Neille and situated in the shadow of Old Trafford.
Ryan Giggs’ side are also using the Red Devils’ Carrington training base this week before heading to Wrexham on Wednesday.
Wales then face Slovakia in their opening Euro 2020 qualifier in Cardiff on Sunday.
Bale has had a tough time in Madrid recently but was given an unexpected start in Zinedine Zidane’s first match back as manager at the Bernabeu.
The 29-year-old was impressive in the 2-0 win over Celta Vigo, getting on the scoresheet and also hitting the woodwork.
And Giggs’ has backed Bale to continue his form this week.
“I expect Gareth to turn up and do what he always does, give everyone a lift,” said the Wales boss.
"When he plays for Wales he gives 100% and more often than not he performs well."
Man Utd: Gareth Bale was nearly signed says Moyes
United fans will be keeping an eye on the Real Madrid star during the international break as they harbour hopes of a summer deal.
However, Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has ruled out any potential move.
"Gareth loves it there. As for going to another club, no one could afford him,” he said.
