Tottenham hit with Mauricio Pochettino BLOW shortly after Champions League progression
TOTTENHAM fans will not be happy with Mauricio Pochettino’s update after their Champions League victory.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino discusses touchline ban
Tottenham beat Borussia Dortmund 4-0 on aggregate to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals for only the second time in their history.
Harry Kane’s solitary goal combined with a solid defensive display was enough after a stunning 3-0 win at Wembley last month.
However, it was announced on Wednesday morning that Poccettino has been handed a two-match ban and a £10,000 fine.
The Argentine seemed to reveal that the FA have handed him a ban the day before, and BT Sport claim he nodded when he was asked if he will be absent from the touchline against Southampton.
Pochettino said: “I am not going to talk because it is easy to pay with me and you are going to see tomorrow why I am not going to talk.
“I am very disappointed, I don’t think that is going to change but I don’t care, we are going to be strong.
“If are not going to receive a help from our football people in our country only I can laugh.
“You are going to see tomorrow why I am not so happy with the people.”
I expect to play at the new stadium
The former Saints boss was reprimanded by the governing body after he venomously confronted referee Mike Dean after the 2-1 defeat to Burnley last month.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans have been buoyed by the latest news regarding their new stadium, with the club confident that their net home fixture will be played in north London.
“I expect to play at the new stadium,” Pochettino said on Tuesday.
“I was talking yesterday with Daniel [Levy] and he was very positive, I hope yes and I wish we can play in our new stadium.
“We were sitting and listening to the Champions League song and we were talking with Jesus [Perez, Tottenham’s assistant boss] saying it will be amazing to be in the new stadium listening to that song before the game.
“Now we are in the quarter-final I hope we can finish and we can listen to the song there.”
“I feel very proud. I am more than happy first of all for our players. They deserved it, the effort was brilliant.”
Tottenham will find out their Champions League quarter-final opponents when the draw is made on Friday March 16 at 11am.
