Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told players THIS message at half-time vs Southampton
OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER’s half-time message to his players proved inspirational as his Manchester United players came from behind to beat Southampton.
The Norwegian has made life in the Old Trafford dug-out look easy since replacing Jose Mourinho in December.
Saturday’s 3-2 triumph over Southampton was his tenth Premier League win from 12 matches.
He is still yet to taste defeat in league action, with his only loss coming against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
That record may have looked very different if it wasn’t for Solskjaer’s words of motivation at the interval.
Manchester United were trailing 1-0 at half-time after Yan Valery fired a 25-yard screamer past David de Gea.
The late drama drew comparisons to the United of old under Sir Alex Ferguson and it’s likely Solskjaer would have given his players the famous hairdryer treatment at half-time.
After his side earned three vital points in their pursuit of a top four finish, he revealed what he told them in the dressing room when trailing the Saints.
“The manner of it is like the old days," Solskjaer said.
"I've been part of that so many times myself and so pleased for the boys that they managed to claw three points out of this game.
"We spoke about at half-time, just get some more urgency get the ball in the box, play more forward and the Stretford End will suck the ball in for you.
"I don't want to take much away from Andreas and Romelu's great finishes but we felt that support is just part of this club, this history, we've done it so many times before."
The hosts equalised after the break and Solskjaer's words of inspiration through Andreas Pereira’s spectacular strike.
Lukaku then put the hosts in front with 59 minutes on the clock, completing a quick turnaround.
James Ward-Prowse then levelled things up with a stunning free-kick.
Lukaku was the hero though in the end when he tucked home the winner in the 89th minute.
Paul Pogba nearly put the icing on the cake but his stoppage time penalty was straight at Angus Gunn.
