Will Chelsea fans BOO Kepa Arrizabalaga against Tottenham? Rio Ferdinand makes prediction
CHELSEA fans may BOO goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga during tonight’s match against Tottenham.
Chelsea: Sarri's decision to drop Kepa praised by Ferdinand
That is according to BT Sport pundit and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.
Kepa was involved in a highly controversial incident at Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
Deep into extra time, after receiving treatment for what looked like a leg injury, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri attempted to substitute his goalkeeper.
However, Kepa refused to go off, claiming he was fine to carry on.
As a manager surely you might be thinking about that. That’s going to affect your team as well
Sarri fumed on the touchline but the game eventually resumed with the Spaniard still in goal.
He has since been fined a week’s wages, despite Sarri claiming it was just a “misunderstanding”.
And Kepa was dropped for the visit of Tottenham on Wednesday, with Willy Caballero stepping in.
Ferdinand reckons the 23-year-old may get a frosty reception from the Stamford Bridge faithful throughout the evening.
“If he gets picked today, do the crowd boo him?” Ferdinand said.
“That’s another thing, that’s another thing that would reverberate throughout the team.
“As a manager surely you might be thinking about that.
“That’s going to affect your team as well.”
Chelsea v Tottenham: Premier League match preview
Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley believes Kepa should be left out against Tottenham.
Speaking on ESPN FC on Tuesday, Burley said: “This guy should be dropped.
“He should be dropped tomorrow, absolutely. Willy Caballero is an experienced goalkeeper.
“He should be dropped, fined and dropped for what he did. It was a cup final.”
