Jordan Henderson and Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool will NOT suffer like Chelsea over spat
LIVERPOOL will not suffer any fall-out from the spat between Jurgen Klopp and his captain Jordan Henderson after the draw with Manchester United, reckons Chris Kirkland.
Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp reflects on Manchester United draw
Henderson was substituted midway through Liverpool’s clash at Old Trafford as the Premier League title chasers sought a winning goal.
The Reds captain was not happy with being hooked and expressed his dissatisfaction to manager Klopp on the touchline.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga snubbed Maurizio Sarri’s orders to withdraw him during the EFL Cup final.
Kepa refused to be taken off with just minutes before the stalemate went to penalties - resulting in Sarri fuming with his goalkeeper.
Nether one of them would have taken offence there
Both incidents were discussed on Sky Sports News today.
And ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Kirkland reckons Klopp and Henderson will resolve their differences - unlike Sarri and Kepa.
Asked if the Liverpool pair will have showdown talks over Sunday’s incident, Kirkland said: “Going forward there won’t be an issue.
“There won’t be a problem at all. Not the way Jurgen is, not the way Jordan is. That will be sorted out straightaway.
Jurgen Klopp: We lost the rhythm and didn't get it back
“Nether one of them would have taken offence there.
“I was surprised he came off, I must admit. You take your captain off in this game, when I thought he was playing well, it’s a big statement.
“You shouldn’t really take your captain off. You don’t see it many times. But going forward there will be no issues at all.
“There will be no problems with Jurgen.”
As for Chelsea, Kirkland’s fellow pundit Mario Melchiot reckons Kepa was wrong to defy his manager.
"For me, this is a really weird situation,” the Dutchman said.
"If you have a goalkeeper who knows the opponent, knows how to maybe stop the penalties, then you want him on because then, psychologically, you're already 1-0 ahead in the penalty shootout.
"Okay, Kepa saved (Leroy Sane's) penalty but I still agree that he should have come off.
“The manager is in charge. The moment when he said 'I don't want to come off' - there is no sympathy.
"Luiz went up to him and told him to go off.
“When one of your team-mates is also telling you that, you're almost dictating and it doesn't put Sarri in a good position."
