Borussia Dortmund fans keep up tradition at Wembley against Tottenham
BORUSSIA DORTMUND fans packed into Wembley stadium one hour before kick-off to keep up their well-known tradition this evening.
Spurs: Dortmund fans create lively atmosphere at Wembley
Dortmund supporters have an excellent reputation for their loyal and loud backing.
At their home ground, Signal Iduna Park, the south stand 'Yellow Wall' is a sight to behold.
But unlike at most Premier League and even Football League grounds, the Dortmund fans get to their seats before the team comes out to warm up.
And that was the case again this evening when the visiting Germans turned up in their numbers to cheer every name on the team-sheet, which was revealed shortly after 7pm.
When the Dortmund players came out of the tunnel they were met by rapturous applause, with the supporters banging drums and waving flags.
In contrast, Tottenham fans were only starting to drip into the stadium.
But as the time ticked closer to kick-off the home supporters began to increase the decibels inside Wembley.
And defender Jan Vertoghen spoke ahead of the clash of the importance of making home advantage count.
"It's very important," said Vertonghen.
"It helps when the stadium is full and rocking and we will see that.
"It is a great fixture and that's what we became footballers for, to play these games at Wembley, one of the best stadiums in the world.
"We had some great games there last season and definitely need that again.
"It gives you a great lift. The first leg is at home. We need everyone behind us and it might give us an extra boost.
"Home advantage is something big in the knock-out phase of the Champions League."
Tottenham are without star striker Harry Kane for tonight's clash.
But Dortmund are also missing talisman Marco Reus.
