However Martial, as well as several of his team-mate, have flourished under the guidances of Solskjaer since Mourinho was sacked in December.
Solskjaer only has the job on an interim basis but is putting himself in the frame for the full-time gig with his success.
United have won eight of nine games under the Norwegian and Martial has been impressive, scoring three in his last eight games, including the third against Arsenal in the FA Cup last week before an injury ruled him out against Burnley on Tuesday.
“I am loving my time at this club,” he said.
“From the day I joined I have been made to feel part of the United family and I have been incredibly humbled and overwhelmed by the warmth and love of our fans, who continue to amaze me with their support.
“I would like to thank Ole and his coaching staff for their belief in me and for helping me to take my game to the next level.
“This club is all about winning trophies and I am sure the next piece of silverware is not that far away.”
Martial’s turbulent relationship with Mourinho saw him left on the sidelines and even fined for failing to return to United’s pre-season tour after the birth of his child in the summer.
The France youngster missing out on a place in the World Cup squad last summer after being shunned to the sidelines by Mourinho.
But he is a regular now under Solskjaer and looks destined for big things in a vibrant attack with Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba.
