Chelsea signing Gonzalo Higuain could trigger one more transfer - Gabriele Marcotti
AC MILAN will only sign Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek if Gonzalo Higuain completes a move to Chelsea.
Gonzalo Higuain transfer to result in Piatek move says expert
That is the view of Italian football expert and ESPN FC pundit Gabriele Marcotti.
Piatek has been linked with a host of clubs across Europe after a fine debut season so far in Serie A.
He has scored 19 goals in 21 games in all competitions for Genoa since joining from Polish side Cracovia last summer.
As well as AC Milan, West Ham are reportedly keen on the 23-year-old Poland international.
The only circumstance under which Piatek comes to Milan is if Higuain goes
Milan could be set to lose Higuain, with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri making him his No 1 target this month.
Higuain is currently on loan at the San Siro from Juventus but is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Marcotti is not convinced himself Piatek is the man to replace the Argentine at Milan.
However, he says a deal would only happen if Higuain were to go.
“He’s scored a ton of goals but sometimes he sits on the bench for Genoa because he’s one of those guys that sort of scores with every touch and not do much else,” Marcotti said.
“But then again he’s still young.
“I don’t know, to me this is a bit of a gamble.
“He’s one of those guys who might be a half-season wonder or people used to underrate Harry Kane as well.
“But he is one of those guys that people look at say ‘what’s the big deal?’ until you look at his goal tally.
“For me it’s a question of price.
“Personally I don’t think, particularly if Higuain goes and Milan get a striker, they shouldn’t go for that sort of gamble.
“The only circumstance under which Piatek comes to Milan is if Higuain goes.”
