AC Milan post clue Gonzalo Higuain is set to join Chelsea and miss Juventus showdown
AC MILAN may have inadvertently posted a clue as to Gonzalo Higuain’s future as Chelsea target the striker.
Chelsea want to sign Higuain this month from parent club Juventus.
The Argentina international is currently on loan at Milan and Express Sport understands the plan is to transfer his loan agreement to the Blues.
Chelsea are willing to then pay a big fee to sign Higuain up for a further year on loan, before making the deal permanent in the summer of 2020.
Higuain has travelled with Milan to Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana final against Juventus tonight.
But the 31-year-old was nowhere to be seen on Milan’s social channels ahead of kick off.
Milan players and management met with the Saudi prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal on Wednesday.
But the only player NOT there was Higuain, who was conspicuous by his absence.
Milan and Juventus are expected to hold a meeting in Saudi Arabia to discuss Higuain’s future.
Milan paid a fee to bring in the striker on loan for the season but could be willing to play ball on letting him join Chelsea.
Juventus want rid of the forward and seem open to him moving to London - especially if Chelsea are willing to buy him on a permanent transfer in 18 months time.
The problem for Milan right now is who to replace Higuain with.
They want Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa - but West Ham are also interested and Real Madrid have been linked.
Chelsea: Pundit explains why club won’t take on Higuain
Meanwhile, Chelsea would need to shift Alvaro Morata out of their squad to facilitate Higuain’s arrival.
Sevilla and Valencia were interested in Morata but cannot afford the player.
Atletico Madrid are in talks with Chelsea over a deal but they also must move a player out before Morata can join.
Atletico are said to have offered their striker Nikola Kalinic to Sevilla in order to free up a spot - and wages - in their squad.
But Sevilla are not interested in the deal.
