Man Utd news: Why Marcus Rashford can emulate Arsenal great Thierry Henry - Robbie Keane
MANCHESTER UNITED star Marcus Rashford is just like Thierry Henry at the age of 21 - and will only continue to get better.
That is the opinion of former Tottenham and Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane.
Rashford has spent the majority of his Manchester United career so far as a winger.
When Henry first joined Arsenal back in 1999 he also played out wide until manager Arsene Wenger saw something in the Frenchman to make him a central striker.
He went on to score 228 goals for the Gunners, winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups during two spells at the club.
He played on the left wing, right wing couple of times, genuine pace like Rashford
Marcus Rashford has been played as a number nine in recent weeks under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and excelled in the role.
Keane admits the United star is different to England team-mate Harry Kane.
But he can see similarities in Rashford’s style of play to Henry and only expects big things from him.
“They’re different types of players [Rashford and Kane],” Keane said on Sky Sports.
“Rashford reminds me a little bit of Henry when he first came to England. He’s a top, top player, 21 years of age.
“When Henry came here we weren’t sure whether he was a striker, whether he could finish.
“He played on the left wing, right wing couple of times, genuine pace like Rashford. Now he’s playing as number nine.
“I think someone like Solskjaer who played as a striker obviously would have seen that he’s a genuine striker who can score goals, who can finish.
“Someone like Solskjaer can give him the opportunity to do that.
“To leave someone like [Romelu] Lukaku out who cost £75m to put a 21-year-old in who is at this moment in time Manchester United’s number nine and with those stats there, it’s incredible.
“So he can achieve a hell of a lot, he is a genuine top, top player at this moment in time.
“He’s only going to get better.”
Rashford scored the opening goal for United on their trip to Tottenham on Sunday.
