Chelsea news: Pedro and Willian must learn this from Callum Hudson-Odoi - Joe Cole
CHELSEA winger Callum Hudson-Odoi may only be 18 but Joe Cole already thinks senior players can learn from him.
Academy graduate Hudson-Odoi has been a regular in Chelsea squads in recent weeks.
The England youth international is currently subject of heavy transfer interest from Bayern Munich, with the German giants submitting a fourth bid earlier this week.
But Cole was more keen to talk about on-field affairs surrounding the promising youngster.
Chelsea have struggled to score in the Premier League of late, netting just once in home clashes against Leicester and Southampton.
These lads maybe need to go out and hug the line and do what Callum did there because he is excellent at that
Cole believes regular starters Willian and Pedro are not providing enough width to help break down stubborn opposition defences.
And the former Chelsea midfielder reckons the experienced duo can learn from Hudson-Odoi and his wing play.
“This lad here has been a breath of fresh air coming into the side,” Cole said of Hudson-Odoi on BT Sport.
“The only way to beat a low block is to get wide and get your dribblers on the ball.
“Chelsea have got the dribblers, they’ve got your Willians, your Pedros and your Hudson-Odois. They are there.
“But I think what’s been happening the last few games, they’ve not been shifting the ball quick enough.
“These lads maybe need to go out and hug the line and do what Callum did there because he is excellent at that.
“When he gets it and brings it in on his right foot, drops his shoulder and takes it, you can’t catch him, he’s electric.
“That’s why the fans love him here, that’s why he’s so exciting.
“That’s what Chelsea need to do in order to start breaking these teams down a little bit easier.”
Hudson-Odoi started on the bench for the visit of Newcastle on Saturday.
