The Norwegian has won his first five games in charge and has, in many peoples eyes, improved the style of football at Old Trafford.
His odds of becoming the permanent manager have shortened due to his fine start.
I think this would be the biggest mistake ever for Manchester United
But when asked if Solskjaer should get the job, Burley was unequivocal with his response
“No," he said.
“I think this would be the biggest mistake ever for Manchester United.
“Man United slightly struggling, pretty average, by their standards, players.
“If emotions take over here then Man United will make another mistake by giving him the job.
“This is a full rebuild, even if you get five victories in a row it doesn’t matter.
“This is a full rebuild, this is trying to hunt down Liverpool and Manchester City who have spent big with two hugely experienced coaches.
“It’s about challenging in Europe again as well as domestically. That’s a long-term project.
“Good for short term at the moment, long term not for me.”
United made it through to the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, beating Reading 2-0 at Old Trafford.
They return to Premier League action on Sunday when they visit high-flying Tottenham (4.30pm).
