And the Norwegian has told Greenwood he will feature for United in their final fixture in a busy festive period on January 5 against Reading in the FA Cup third round.
The teenager netted a hat-trick last week against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup to eliminate the Blues for the first time in five years.
Greenwood is thought of highly by officials at United and has scored 22 goals in 19 appearances across age groups this season.
On being appointed until the end of the campaign, Solskjaer made it clear he wants to use youth players in his squad.
“Young players will definitely get a chance – that is a big part of this job,” he said.

“It's part of the tradition and history of the club to give young players a chance.
“I will speak to Nicky Butt because he will know who is ready and at some point in the New Year it will happen.
“It's a big part of my job now. I have been on the other side, working with the reserves. I know how important it is to see that link to the first team.”
United’s new era got off to an impressive start yesterday with a 5-1 win over Cardiff.
