The Reds will now have to beat Napoli 1-0 or by two clear goals to proceed on match day six.
First half goals from Juan Bernat and Neymar gave Thomas Tuchel’s side a two-goal lead before James Milner pulled one back before half-time from the penalty spot.
Sadio Mane was brought down by Angel Di Maria and the referee appeared to award a corner before being helped by his assistant.
Marco Verratti was very lucky to stay on the field after a horrific tackle of defender Joe Gomez.
After the match, Jurgen Klopp hit out at the Polish referee.
“A little hurdle was the 500,000 interruptions in the second half,” he told BT Sport.
“The referee still thinks he did everything right.
“Two or three times in a row we have been the fairest team in England in the table.
“Tonight we looked like butchers!

“We were constantly down, it looks like we’ve used elbows and everything.
“It made the boys look aggressive, the ref let that happen.”
A win at the Parc des Princes would have booked Liverpool’s place in the knockout stages but they not have it all to do if they’re to qualify.
“Losing in Paris will happen to a lot of teams,” Klopp added.
“It still feels a bit rubbish.
