Man Utd news: Rio Ferdinand reveals when United will sack Jose Mourinho
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand claims Jose Mourinho will be sacked when there is a readymade replacement available.
Rio Ferdinand SLAMS Jose Mourinho following Young Boys clash
Mourinho’s long-term future at Manchester United has been in doubt for several months.
The Portuguese has cut a frustrated figure after failing to buy the players he wanted in the summer transfer window.
Form on the pitch has not helped Mourinho’s situation, with United seventh in the Premier League table, 14 points behind leaders Manchester City.
United saved their blushes on Tuesday night when they struck in second-half stoppage time to beat Young Boys 1-0 in the Champions League at Old Trafford.
Who’s not in a job now? Zinedine Zidane yes, he’s an obvious one
Ferdinand was working as a pundit for BT Sport for the match and afterwards was asked about Mourinho’s situation.
And the former centre-back said Mourinho would not be sacked only because there was no one available to fill his shoes.
“Who’s the replacement?” Ferdinand said.
“I don’t see Manchester United sacking Jose Mourinho without a readymade replacement to step into that role.
“And I don’t think there is one out there. An idea of who you can get, who’s gettable now?
“Who’s not in a job now? Zinedine Zidane yes, he’s an obvious one.
“But I don’t know, listen, it’s a difficult situation.”
Marouane Fellaini was the man who came up with the winner against Young Boys.
Mourinho boasts about his Champions League record
But Ferdinand singled out goalkeeper David De Gea for praise after a stunning save when the game was goalless.
“David De Gea I think needs a special mention with a fantastic save,” he said.
“He clutched it from nowhere, the claw came out.”
United are back in Premier League action this Saturday when they visit struggling Southampton (5.30pm).
