Man Utd news: Anthony Martial makes Cristiano Ronaldo claim amid Juventus transfer links
MANCHESTER UNITED star Anthony Martial has revealed he idolises Cristiano Ronaldo amid rumours he could join the Portuguese star at Juventus.
Anthony Martial one of Man United's 'better players' says Moreno
Martial’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season but the club can extend it for one more year.
They are certain to take up that option but risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season if he does not sign new terms or is sold in the summer.
Juventus are one of a number of clubs reported to be interested in signing him.
And Martial admits Juve star Ronaldo was a hero of his while he was growing up.
Asked who his favourite United player of all time was, the Frenchman replied: “It was Cristiano Ronaldo.
"I only admired players who dribbled the ball and he did just that.
“He would put on a real show. To tell you the truth, he got me dreaming that one day it could be me.”
Martial has been one of United’s rare shining lights in an otherwise disappointing season for the club.
Man United: I don't think Martial will move says Nicol
The 22-year-old is their top scorer with seven goals this season but United are struggling in the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho’s side are seventh in the table - seven points off the Champions League places and a whopping 14 behind leaders Manchester City.
Mourinho risks losing his best players as a result, with David de Gea reportedly set to follow Martial out of the exit door.
Like Martial, De Gea can leave for nothing after 2019/20 and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly lining up a record-breaking deal.
The French giants are said to be readying a contract offer that would make him the best-paid goalkeeper in the history of football.
The Daily Mail claim De Gea will be offered £15.5million a year (just under £300,000 a week) to move to France.
Paul Pogba is another player who could leave United and Juventus and Inter Milan have been heavily linked with the World Cup winner
