Man Utd news: Anthony Martial makes Arsenal revelation - I followed Thierry Henry
MANCHESTER UNITED star Anthony Martial has opened up on his idolisation of Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry.
Anthony Martial one of Man United's 'better players' says Moreno
Martial was just three years old when France won the World Cup for the first time in 1998.
But his formative years in Paris were spent playing football and watching France’s current superstars shine across the continent.
Martial joined United in 2015 after playing for Lyon and Monaco in his teenage years.
And the 22-year-old has revealed he idolised Arsenal legend Henry.
I followed Arsenal as Thierry Henry was there
“I always followed English football,” Martial told manutd.com.
“Manchester United because Patrice Evra was there and he comes from the same town as me.
“I followed Arsenal as Thierry Henry was there, also from Les Ulis.”
Henry left Arsenal for Barcelona in 2007 and eventually returned to the Gunners on loan in 2012.
He is now manager of Monaco, who are struggling for results in Ligue 1.
Many of the players who won the World Cup for France in 1998 are now in management.
And Martial puts Henry up there with his other heroes from that era.
“Then, for my French heroes, I had Thierry Henry, of course, and then Zinedine Zidane, Zizou,” he said.
“They were the best. I admired strikers, number 10s.
“I used to watch videos of everyone! Henry, Ronaldo – and another player who I really liked was Nicolas Anelka.
“He was a really great player, quick with loads of skill.”
