Chelsea and Man Utd are ONLY teams that can stop Man City breaking Arsenal record - Merson
CHELSEA and Manchester United are the only teams who can stop Manchester City going unbeaten this season.
West Ham vs Manchester City: Premier League clash previewed
That is the view of Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal and England star Paul Merson.
Manchester City had yet to taste defeat in the Premier League this term ahead of today’s visit to West Ham, where they strolled to a 4-0 victory.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea are also unbeaten, with the former holding City to a draw at Anfield in October.
But Merson can only see City going through the whole campaign without losing.
They have to go to Chelsea and Man United - they aren’t going to get beat by any of the other teams
Arsenal are the only team in the Premier League era to go a whole season unbeaten when they won the title in 2004.
Many thought Pep Guardiola’s side would do it last term as they did not lose until a 4-3 defeat at Liverpool in January.
Merson says there are only two fixtures left where Manchester City could lose this season - away to Chelsea on December 8 and against rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford next March.
So he reckons it is down to them to halt City’s charge to Invincibility.
Man United: We WILL finish top four says Mourinho
“I think it’s time to start talking about going the season undefeated again,” Merson said.
“You look at it and they’ve played Tottenham away, they’ve played Liverpool away, they’ve played Arsenal away.
“They have to go to Chelsea and Man United - they aren’t going to get beat by any of the other teams.
“They’re not going to get beat by any of the other teams.
"I just don’t see where it ends. I don’t see where it ends.
“Even if they’re losing today 1-0 at West Ham with 20 minutes to go, they’ll bring on three players, three forwards.
“They’ve got two games, Chelsea and Manchester United.”
