Chelsea news: Jorginho suspension claim made for Tottenham - 'He should NOT be playing'
CHELSEA star Jorginho should be suspended for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham.
Sarri looks ahead to 'difficult match' against Tottenham
That is according to legendary Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson.
Chelsea will look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season when they face their London rivals at Wembley.
Jorginho has had a fine start to his Blues career since following Maurizio Sarri from Napoli for a fee of around £57million.
He has started every league game of the season so far with Chelsea sitting third in the table after 12 games.
He should not be playing this week I’m afraid
But Thompson believes the Italy international should have been sent off in Chelsea's 0-0 draw against Everton before the international break.
Jorginho was attempting to win the ball off Gylfi Sigurdsson and was pulling onto the Everton man before committing a heavy challenge.
And Thompson believes it was a definite red card and therefore Jorginho should be out of the visit to Tottenham.
“I can’t believe, I couldn’t believe this when I saw it,” he said.
“I didn’t need to see a replay, the referee should have actually stopped the game there.
“Then this gets absolutely so ugly. It’s scissor challenge that they call it, he doesn’t go anywhere near the ball.
“Watch his ankle turn here, Sigurdsson. It is absolutely dreadful.
“The referee’s got plenty of time to see that, it’s bad enough that he should have given the foul earlier than that.
“That would stop that sort of thing and that’s what we all thought they would bring.
“But that to me, it’s a no-brainer. I think Jorginho has actually got away with that.
“He should not be playing this week I’m afraid.”
Jorginho was unsurprisingly named in the Chelsea starting XI for the match at Wembley.
