Mourinho: Man United 'made mistakes' against Man City
Manchester United had fond memories of their trip to the Etihad last season where they tasted a 3-2 victory after coming from 2-0 down to clinch all three points that day.
But it was a different story on Sunday as United were swept aside 3-1 by a rampant City.
Although United pulled a goal back through Anthony Martial after 58 minutes, Ilkay Gundogan killed the game off when he finished off a devastating move which featured 44 passes.
And Match of the Day pundit Shearer was appalled with United’s performance.
So much so, that he likened their display to that of a schoolboy team.
“Normally you would say there was a gap in class, but today there was a chasm,” Shearer said when discussing the difference between the two teams.
“The goal in the 86th minute, United are chasing the game and you’d think the manager had said ‘this was a practice game on the Friday and this was the U16s be careful you’re up the first team don’t injure them’.
“They’re trying to chase the game here. There’s no closing down, there’s no energy, there’s no desire.

“There’s no spark, you’re not getting near anyone whatsoever.
“City were in better every single position in this game from start to finish.
“They were that dominant.”
Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, claimed United were tired after a draining week which saw them beat Juventus 2-1 in Turin.
He said: “The physical fatigue and the mental fatigue leads to mistakes.
