Man Utd news: The hilarious reason Gary Lineker was delighted United beat Juventus
ENGLAND legend Gary Lineker was delighted Manchester United beat Juventus on Wednesday.
Lineker hosted BT Sport’s coverage of the Champions League Group H clash in Turin.
After Cristiano Ronaldo had given Juventus the lead in the second half, Manchester United struck two late goals to turn the game on its head and win 2-1.
Lineker’s guests in the BT studio were former United stars Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves.
The trio were understandably thrilled with the result but it had been a different scenario in previous Champions League games, where they had cut angry and frustrated figures.
It’s also quite enjoyable to sit here with three former Manchester United heroes and not have to be depressed at the end of the game
United lost 1-0 to Juventus two weeks ago at Old Trafford and were held to a hugely disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Valencia in early October.
So Lineker was pleased not to have miserable guests to speak to following Wednesday’s memorable win.
“It’s also quite enjoyable to sit here with three former Manchester United heroes and not have to be depressed at the end of the game,” he said.
“Right Paul?”
Scholes replied: “Yep! Makes a change.”
Scholes was not completely satisfied though and claimed United boss Jose Mourinho lacked class with his celebration following the game.
United walked onto the pitch at the final whistle and taunted the home fans by cupping his ear to them.
“It’s not necessary,” Scholes said of the incident.
“This is everywhere he goes. You need to win with a bit of class sometimes.
“Shake the manager’s hand, we’ve had a great result, brilliant, well done, clap the away fans.
“I don’t think there is any need for that but that’s just the way he is.”
United sit second in Group H with seven points from their four games.
A victory over Young Boys in the next round would put them through to the knockout stages if Valencia fail to beat Juventus.
Juve remain top of the group with Wednesday's defeat the first time they had conceded a goal, and dropped points, in the competition this season.
