Arsenal star RULED OUT of Liverpool clash following Blackpool Carabao Cup win
ARSENAL will face Liverpool this weekend without young star Matteo Guendouzi.
Guendouzi was sent off in the second half of Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup.
After initial reports suggested that the ban would not include Premier League matches, it has now been confirmed that he will be suspended.
Guendouzi has become a first team regular since joining Arsenal, and looked likely to play on Saturday evening before his red.
Guendouzi was sent off after collecting two yellow cards.
The ruling on red card bans has changed this season.
If this incident was last season, Guendouzi would be able to play in the match against the Emirates on Saturday night.
However, according to the new rule, he will be forced to watch from the sidelines.
The rule change now applies to players who receive two yellow cards.
Unai Emery announced that he has spoken to Guendouzi about the incident, and hinted that he will go easy on the youngster.
“That is football,” he said.
“Things can be positive or negative like an injury, a red card, a 90 minutes of hard work, that don’t allow you to play other matches.
“A red card is like that.
“We have a lot of players looking to play to help us and take responsibility.
“His quality for the team, I am going to prepare with other players for the big match.
“He’s playing well, he’s playing with a competitive spirit.
“He is playing with the spirit I want today and every match.
“We have spoken. It is very important to control but I don’t think he lost control.
“The red card is one circumstance.”
