Man Utd news: Real Madrid would only appoint Jose Mourinho on one condition - pundit
REAL MADRID would only appoint Jose Mourinho as their manager again if he was a success the first time.
Real Madrid shouldn't go back to Jose Mourinho says Nicol
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol.
Jose Mourinho was Real Madrid manager for three years between 2010 and 2013.
The Portuguese won one Copa Del Rey and one La Liga title during his time at the club.
However, his relationships with star players such as Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo were said to be strained.
I’d go back to someone I’ve had before if it was an outstanding success
He left the club by mutual consent in the summer of 2013, describing his final campaign at the Bernabeu as his worst in coaching.
Manchester United boss Mourinho has been under pressure at Old Trafford and has remarkably been linked with a return to Real.
But Nicol cannot see why the Spanish giants would want the 55-year-old back after how it ended last time.
“I’d go back to someone I’ve had before if it was an outstanding success,” Nicol said.
“But, the truth is, when Mourinho left Madrid it was an absolute shambles.
“It’s kind of what is going on at United right now.
“So I see no reason whatsoever why anybody at Real Madrid would want Mourinho back.
“So no (it won’t happen).”
Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui is reportedly close to being sacked after a poor start to the season.
Los Blancos have already lost three La Liga games this term and sit seventh in the table.
Meanwhile, Mourinho's United are 10th in the Premier League having lost the same number of matches.
The Red Devils also have just four points from their first three Champions League group games.
