Liverpool news: Fresh Virgil van Dijk injury update ahead of Huddersfield clash
VIRGIL VAN DIJK is fit to play for Liverpool against Huddersfield according to Holland national team boss Ronald Koeman.
Liverpool: Van Dijk is still 'in pain' after injury says Klopp
Van Dijk was sent home from international duty after his country's 3-0 win over Germany in the UEFA Nations League - but only as a precautionary measure.
And Koeman insists the Reds star is fit and ready to play against the struggling Terriers on Saturday (17:30).
"He's back in Liverpool but he is ready to play for next week," Koeman said. "He's taken a rest.
"He spoke to the manager. The medical staff of the Dutch national team spoke to the medical staff of Liverpool and made the decision that he was playing only the Germany game and then after back to Liverpool.
"He is ready to play next weekend."
The 27-year-old has been playing through the pain after picking up the knock early in the season.
He appeared to make it worse in a 3-0 victory over former club Southampton last month.
But he soldiered on and started games against Chelsea, Napoli and Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Kop boss Jurgen Klopp is still sweating over the fitness of Van Dijk’s team-mate Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian scored a stunning goal direct from a corner in his country’s recent 4-1 win over Swaziland.
But Salah, 26, limped off with a muscle injury and was also sent back to his club early.
Adam Lallana, 30, is back in contention for Klopp’s men after making a full return to training.
Jordan Henderson revealed he was looking forward to his fellow England star coming back into the fold.
"It's exciting for me to know that when he comes back in, he can take us forward even more", said the 28-year-old Reds skipper.
“He can help us get better and I am excited for Liverpool and England for him to get back playing football and to show everyone what he is capable of.
"There's not many players that play like Adam.”
