Jamie Carragher MOCKS Gary Neville before Croatia vs England with Sky Sports pundit ABSENT
GARY NEVILLE was not at England’s UEFA Nations League match against Croatia on Friday night - but that did not stop Jamie Carragher mocking his Sky Sports colleague.
England team train ahead of Nations League clash
Since hanging up their boots, Neville and Carragher have put aside on-pitch rivalries and worked together as TV pundits.
The Manchester United and Liverpool legends still often throw the odd jibe at each other though, most often about their misfortunes from their playing careers.
And on Friday night it was the turn of Carragher to ridicule his on-screen sidekick, with Neville not at England’s game in Rijeka.
Ahead of the match, Sky Sports presenter David Jones was discussing the state of the pitch.
Oh there’s only one man who’s ever done that
And he referred to a memorable, or in Gary Neville’s case forgettable, moment from back in 2006 ahead of the game.
Neville scored a disastrous own goal for England against Croatia in a Euro 2008 qualifier.
The right-back passed to Paul Robinson and has the goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball, it bobbled over his foot and into the goal.
“Well the English will be mindful of scoring any own goals,” Jones said.
“We don’t want any bobbles in Croatia like last time you were here Jamie.”
Jamie Carragher, who played in that 2-0 loss, knew exactly what Jones was referring too.
“Oh there’s only one man who’s ever done that,” he jested in reply.
Jones continued: “Gary Neville scored that famous own goal, Paul Robinson the goalkeeper.”
And Carragher could be heard in the background saying: “Very famous!”
Neville was yet to reply to Carragher on his personal Twitter account.
England boss Gareth Southgate made a host of changes for the match against the side he lost to in the World Cup semi-final in the summer.
The Three Lions switched to a 4-3-3 formation after predominantly playing 3-5-2 in recent times.
