Man Utd news: Chelsea star has justified United’s transfer interest - Troy Deeney
CHELSEA star Willian has shown so far this season why Jose Mourinho was keen on bringing him to Manchester United.
That is the opinion of Watford striker Troy Deeney, who worked as a pundit for Sky Sports on Monday.
Willian was keen with a move away from Chelsea in the summer if manager Antonio Conte remained at the club.
Manchester United were linked with the Brazil international, with Mourinho being the man who initially brought him to England when at Chelsea in 2013.
Willian has started three of Chelsea’s first five games of the season, coming on in the other two.
You’ve got two probably, arguably the best No 10s around. That’s why United were looking at Willian
Chelsea have won all five of their Premier League games under Sarri and sit top of the table.
Deeney has been impressed by the attacking style the Italian has brought to the club.
And he says Sarri has been helped by having two top attackers in Willian and Eden Hazard.
“I think it’s very much more attack-minded,” Deeney said of Chelsea.
“They’re going to use Hazard as much as they can, get him on the ball as much as they can.
“I think with Hazard, Willian starting a lot of the games together, you’ve got two probably, arguably the best No 10s around.
“That’s why United were looking at Willian as well.
“Attack-minded and definitely going to take the game to other teams.”
Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher claimed Hazard was the best player in the Premier League.
But Deeney disagreed, claiming Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne was level with his fellow Belgian.
“Him and Kevin De Bruyne I’d say,” Deeney said of Hazard.
