Liverpool news: Danny Murphy makes Man Utd and Arsenal comparison - this is a good sign
LIVERPOOL’s ability to win games this season without playing at their best is similar to Premier League title-winning teams of the past.
Liverpool: I was like 'WOW' watching them play says Seaman
Those are the thoughts of former Liverpool midfielder turned pundit Danny Murphy.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have won all four of their Premier League games so far this season and are second favourites with the bookies to win the title.
They brushed aside West Ham 4-0 on the opening day but have found it harder against the likes of Brighton and Leicester.
And Murphy says this Liverpool side remind of Manchester United and Arsenal teams of the past, who were able to grind out victories when they were not at their best and clinch league titles.
Winning games when you’re not playing so well is key. When you think of the Arsenal and United teams of the past, they did that so well
“Even though Liverpool have won four, a couple of their performances I’ve seen they haven’t been electric,” Murphy said on Sky Sports News.
“They haven’t been at their best, as dynamic as we saw them at times last season. So that’s really good.
“Winning games when you’re not playing so well is key.
“When you think of the Arsenal and United teams of the past, well the ones I played against, they did that so well.
“So they won’t mind winning ugly or winning badly.”
Liverpool’s next test is Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham this Saturday at Wembley.
And Murphy is confident Liverpool will come away from north London with at least a point.
“It’s a difficult one with that many quality players,” he added.
“I don’t think Liverpool will lose the game.
Liverpool need to push Manchester City to win title says expert
“I think they might be at the beginning just letting Tottenham come at them a little bit, give them a bit of respect, which is right, because Tottenham’s home record was great last year.
“And I think they will hit them on the break with the counter, they’ve got so many players who do that well.
“I don’t see Liverpool losing.
“I think it’s a bigger game for Tottenham after the loss to Watford than it is for Liverpool.”
