Man Utd news: Official website posts injury update on Luke Shaw and Marouane Fellaini
MANCHESTER UNITED have posted an injury update on their first team players following the international break.
Defender Luke Shaw went off with a head injury during England’s game with Spain.
He is thought to have suffered concussion and could be forced to sit out of the Watford game due to the new rules.
But an article on the Manchester United website suggest that may not be the case and he could in fact play.
It claims he will be assessed by the club’s medical staff before any decision is taken.
It read: “Jose Mourinho could be without Luke Shaw, who sustained a head injury in England's UEFA Nations League match against Spain at the weekend.
“Some reports suggest the left-back will be obliged to serve a mandatory seven-day concussion period of absence, though this has not been confirmed.
“Shaw has enjoyed a bright start to the season for United, picking up the Goal of the Month and Player of the Month awards for his performances in August, and will be assessed by United's medical staff before any decisions are taken.
“After the trip to Watford, the Reds' next fixture is away to Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday.”
Luke Shaw 'seems reasonably comfortable' says Southgate
Marouane Fellaini is another who is a doubt, who the article claims has suffered a ‘setback’ with a back problem during Belgium training.
“Marouane Fellaini sustained a minor back problem while training with the Belgium squad and returned to the Aon Training Complex after being ruled out of his side's matches against Scotland and Iceland,” the report added.
“It is a setback for the towering midfielder who starred in United's victory against Burnley before the international break.”
United face Watford on Saturday as they look to get their season back on track.
Jose Mourinho’s side followed up the opening day win over Leicester with back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Tottenham before beating Burnley.
Watford meanwhile are level with Liverpool and Chelsea on maximum points from four games.
Diogo Dalot appears to be in line to make his debut after tweeting: “Have a good week everybody. Getting ready for Saturday.”
Dalot played for the United reserves in the week and Mourinho left the ground as soon as he’d been subbed off.
The young Portuguese defender can play either side of the back four so could come in for Shaw on the left, or allow Ashley Young to move over and play on the right if Antonio Valencia is not selected.
