Man City news: ESPN FC pundit predicts star could join in January - ‘Pep likes him’
MANCHESTER CITY have been backed to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl in January.
Weigl would be great at Manchester City says pundit
Weigl has been linked with a move to Manchester City in recent days.
The German joined Dortmund from 1860 Munich in 2015 and has played 126 times for them, despite still only being 23 years of age.
However, he is yet to make an appearance for Borussia Dortmund this season, who have picked up four points from their opening two games.
ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley was asked what he thought of a potential move to City for Weigl.
I could see this happening because he’s the type of player Guardiola would like at Man City
The former Chelsea midfielder says Weigl is the type of player that would suit Pep Guardiola’s style of play and can see a deal happening in January.
“He might be on the way but it will be a little while,” Burley said.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, when did the transfer window shut? Two weeks ago at most.
“He has not been playing as much as he would like at Borussia Dortmund.
“He’s a player I saw quite a bit of last year, obviously Pep likes him.
“I could see this happening because he’s the type of player Guardiola would like at Man City.
“He’s also the type of player that they don’t have too much cover for, now that Yaya Toure’s away.
“Fernandinho’s in there, (Kevin) De Bruyne’s got injuries. So he’s a very tidy player.
“I’m going to put hit, obviously it would be January or next year.
“But I think that is a possibility down the line.”
Weigl has won six caps for Germany under Joachim Low.
The last of which came in March 2017 against England, where Low's side ran out 1-0 winners.
