Celtic transfer news: Brendan Rodgers gives transfer update ahead of Old Firm clash
CELTIC manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping to bring more new faces to Parkhead before the close of the transfer window.
Celtic: Brendan Rodgers discusses club's lack of transfers
The Hoops have signed four players so far this summer, snapping up Odsonne Edouard, Scott Bain, Emilio Izaguirre and Daniel Arzani from Paris Saint-Germain, Dundee, Al-Feiha and Manchester City respectively.
Many Celtic fans are eager for the club to bring in defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes on Friday night.
Rodgers is keen to do just that and has admitted he’s still looking at further bolstering his squad for the season ahead.
“Well our idea is hopefully to try and strengthen the squad, it is to support the players that are already here,” he told Celtic TV.
“It’s a long campaign with many games and many tournaments so we want to try and improve.
“So we are looking to hopefully do that over the next few days.”
Celtic’s next league game will see them take on their bitter rivals Rangers at Parkhead on Sunday afternoon.
The first Old Firm of the season will pit Rodgers against Steven Gerrard, who he managed during his time in charge of Liverpool.
We are looking to hopefully do that over the next few days
Rodgers is relishing the reunion with his former skipper, saying: "I am looking forward to seeing Steven.
“He is a good guy, we worked well together at Liverpool.
"I don't necessarily see it as a dugout battle, I see it as the teams on the field.
"Whatever coach or manager is there at the time, it is irrespective to me.
"It is about looking at them and how they play and preparing the team in order to win the game. That's what I have tried to do in the 11 games against Rangers in my two years here.
"So that's the focus really. Try to analyse them the best we can.
"There is no doubt Steven has made a difference to them and made a change to them, a positive change.
"No matter the form, they are always tough games so our notion after Thursday will be to focus on that and be ready for it.”
