Sebastian Vettel ‘needs to retire’ after dramatic Max Verstappen collision at British GP
SEBASTIAN VETTEL has been told to retire after colliding with Max Verstappen in the British Grand Prix.
The Ferrari driver went straight into the back of the Dutchman sending the Red Bull car into the air in dramatic fashion.
And Sebastian Vettel received a 10-second time penalty for the incident which ended a dismal weekend for the former F1 world champion.
In contrast, Lewis Hamilton made history in winning his sixth British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Max Verstappen did manage to come home in fifth but fans have called on Vettel to quit the sport.
One tweeted: “#Vettel baddest #F1 driver ever. He needs to retire. Yesterday.”
Another added: “It’s time for Vettel to retire me thinks”.
“Time for Vettel to retire. Unacceptable. #BritishGP2019,” a third exclaimed.
And a fourth said: “Don’t see how Vettel was unlucky. He is not a junior driver... time for Vettel to retire, he does more harm to the races than adding race excitement at the moment.”
Lewis Hamilton discusses Sebastian Vettel's penalty
Vettel coming home at the back of the field has helped Hamilton extend his F1 lead even further.
The Brit now leads team-mate Valtteri Bottas by 39 points after securing his seventh victory of the season.
“I can't tell you how proud I am to be here," Hamilton said after the race.
“You think you'd get used to something like that, but it feels like the first time.”
Hamilton was also delighted to become the winningest driver of the British Grand Prix.
He exclaimed: “Jeez. I couldn't have done it without these guys [the fans] and my team. Everyone back at the factory and everyone is supportive of them.
“I value them massively and super proud to be a part of this.”
F1 returns with the German Grand Prix on Sunday, July 28.
