As the days tick over ahead of the United States Grand Prix, there are plenty of intriguing storylines to follow in the F1 world. Both McLaren and Red Bull are hard at work as they continued to apply updates to their cars.

For Red Bull, round 19 of the season will be critical. The Milton Keynes-based team are bringing their final major upgrade package of the year with the hopes of reeling McLaren back in and stopping Lando Norris from running away with the World Championship.

The 24-year-old currently trails Drivers' Championship leader Max Verstappen by 52 points, but after winning the race in Singapore by over 20 seconds while easy off in the closing stages, it is clear that Norris' advantage is nothing short of alarming.

Massa offers update on 2008 title legal case

Felipe Massa has provided an update on his legal fight against the FIA, F1 and Bernie Ecclestone as he looks to retroactively secure the 2008 World Championship.

"I hope the correct thing happens, for justice, for something that was not part of the sport that punished me big time," he told RacingNews365.

"This is what we are fighting for, which I believe is correct, especially after 16 years and on hearing things which you never thought it was really like that.

"After that, I decided to put a big team together, professional people, divided by many different countries. They really believe it was not fair what happened, for the sport, and I definitely paid.

"When we heard Bernie's comment last year, after that we started to put things together, and we started to fight, to analyse things In the professional, legal way because it was not part of the sport."

Marko wanted Ricciardo dropped after Spanish GP

Christian Horner has revealed that Helmut Marko wanted Daniel Ricciardo out of a drive after the Spanish Grand Prix earlier this season. The Aussie was eventually dumped after a difficult weekend in Singapore.

“He started the season roughly, and then Miami was a weekend of two halves,” Horner told the F1 Nation podcast. “The Friday and Saturday morning was fantastic, and it looked like the Daniel of old defending against the Ferraris and outdriving the car.

“But then the Saturday afternoon and the Sunday were disastrous. So even around Barcelona, Helmut wanted him out of the car, and there was already a lot of pressure on him there.

“By the time we got to Montreal, it was actually dear old Jacques Villeneuve who got him properly wound up by giving him a hard time, and it definitely fired him up, because the way he drove the car that weekend, he grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and put together a very strong race weekend.

“So I did say [to Ricciardo]: give Jacques a call every time every Grand Prix, for the rest of the year, because whatever he said, it definitely worked.”

Horner addresses impact of two key departures

Christian Horner has addressed the impact that losing Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley will have on Red Bull moving forward.

"Well look, starting with Adrian, we had an amazing run with Adrian," he told Channel 4.

"He's been a big part of everything we've done, and we'll look back with great fondness and pride in everything that we achieved collectively. But he's chosen to take on a new challenge. We knew that was coming. We've sort of been gearing up for that.

"Adrian has been on the brink of retiring for 10 years, and so we had to be prepared for that, and I believe we have got strength in depth. He's chosen to continue and continue elsewhere.

"And of course, Jonathan likewise, a long-term team member. But they're two higher-profile names. The reality is that's just two people out of 2000 people that we have within the group."

Aston Martin admiring McLaren's upgrade strategy

Aston Martin are considering following McLaren’s upgrade strategy after the team climbed from the bottom of the pecking order to the top.

“We are looking at this a lot,” Krack told Motorsport.com. “If you compare the pace, and you see when have they [McLaren] made a step, and you can correlate that with some upgrades that are declared as we never have the full picture, there is some correlation where you can say, ‘Okay, this is what it has been changed, and what has it potentially done’.

“When you see, for example, the Zandvoort upgrade, it's a bit here, a bit there, a bit there. You see how fine and complex these cars have become, so I think it would be foolish not to look at it.”

Verstappen risking power unit grid penalty

Max Verstappen could be facing a grid penalty before the end of the season, according to former F1 driver Christijan Albers.

The three-time world champion is already at five internal combustion engines for the season - one over the permitted allocation - and Albers expects the Dutchman to need another engine outside of his allowance before the season ends.

“That could be a hit,” Albers told De Telegraaf. “Then I would get it in Brazil, one hundred per cent. You’re not going to do that in Austin. I would get it in Brazil, that’s better with that long straight, and that’s better with the DRS. They have that in Austin too, but that’s a close call.”

Schumacher 'makes public appearance' after 11 years

Michael Schumacher reportedly made his first public appearance in 11 years last weekend, attending the wedding of daughter Gina, and Iain Bethke.

The legendary seven-time world champion has been absent from the public eye since suffering a life-changing brain injury while skiing with son Mick in 2013.

According to reports from the German media, it was ‘very likely’ that he was present at the union last weekend, which took place at the family’s Mallorca villa.
