England slumped to a 1-0 defeat in the opening Test of the 2019 Ashes.
Nathan Lyon shone for Australia, taking 6-49 as the tourists bowled England out for 146 to complete a thumping 251-run victory.
Lyon also reached 350 Test wickets when he dismissed Ben Stokes before going on to end the day on 352.
Pat Cummins took 4-32 for the Aussies, who claimed their first win at Edgbaston in any format since 2001.
Meanwhile, captain Joe Root is looking for a “big response” from England in the second Test at Lord's.
"We're in English conditions and we really back ourselves to perform, to come back strongly," said Root.
"We have done that time and time again when we have been defeated, especially at home. I'm expecting a big response from the boys.
"Last week will have hurt everyone and everyone will be desperate to win this week. I expect nothing less."
