Emmerdale spoilers: David Metcalfe set for heartbreak amid casting shake-up
EMMERDALE viewers will be getting a brand new regular character in upcoming episodes after a casting shake-up - but does it spell the beginning of a new village romance?
GMB: Andi Peters makes embarrassing Emmerdale gaffe
Emmerdale has seen Dr Liam Cavanagh (played by Jonny McPherson) in the show for years.
But fans ought to get used to his presence as it looks like ITV bosses have plans for the timid doctor.
It has been revealed that Dr Liam will become a series regular following an announcement on Twitter.
In the announcement The Narrow Road Co posted online said: “Our wonderful client @jonnymcpherson is a new regular in @emmerdale.
“Say hello to Dr Liam Cavanagh!”
Dr Liam’s first few years in Emmerdale saw him only appearing during medical emergencies.
But this year viewers have been introduced to his family, most notably his wife Maya (Louisa Clein).
Dr Liam also has a daughter, Leanna (Mimi Slinger), who has been seen throwing her weight around by stealing cars and flashing her family’s cash.
However this permanent introduction may spell the first instance of a love triangle when David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) steps into the picture.
In upcoming scenes, Maya and David will bond over worries with a glass of wine after hours in the shop.
But the pair get a little tipsy and one thing leads to another, leaving the pair seconds away from kissing.
However her husband walks in at the final second, leaving the pair panicked.
Could the couple see a wedge between them now that Maya is spending more time in the village with David?
On the casting news, David star Matthew teased that there is a lot more to come with his character and Maya in the coming weeks.
But will the marriage stay strong after the ordeal?
Meanwhile Emmerdale was subjected to a brutal blunder in last night’s edition of Good Evening Britain.
Speaking to the cast of Emmerdale, Andi Peters said: “The cast of Emmerdale are here, we’ve been enjoying the football.
“Boys, the show, Coronation Street,” Andi began before realising he’d made a mistake. “Emmerdale!”
As the crew laughed at his blunder, Pete Barton actor Anthony Quinlan shouted: “Get out of my pub!”
Emmerdale continues Monday at 7pm on ITV.
