Eleanor won a legion of fans when she appeared on television screens as Ross Poldark’s (played by Aidan Turner) wife.
However, it has been revealed that the actress was originally going to play a very different role in the BBC drama.
The 26-year-old has noted that bosses actually wanted her to play Ross’ former lover Elizabeth (Heida Reed).
“Initially they had been down as Elizabeth,” Eleanor confessed.
“They told me they couldn’t see me as Demelza at all.”
She went on to note that the show’s creators did not want her to audition for the role of Ross’ wife.
“They wouldn’t even let me audition,” Eleanor continued.
“So, it was quite a shock when they eventually offered me the role.”
Speaking in an interview with Red magazine, the flame-haired beauty also revealed how she is inspired by her character.
“I’ve always seen her as a role model,” Eleanor commented.
“She’s certainly changed me, I think, playing her for so long.
“She’s really quite inspiring, I’d like to be held the woman she is.
“She’s a grafter, she works really, really hard - so all of that.”
Eleanor also touched upon her friendship with co-star Aidan.
“We’re great mates,” she said.
“Although we do row.
“We row about everything - usually our characters.
“we’re both ridiculously protective of them and squabble like an all married couple.”
Poldark continues Sunday on BBC One at 9pm.
