BBC has issued an apology to Amanda Abbington following a probe into Giovanni Pernice’s behaviour on the set of Strictly Come Dancing. The broadcaster has acknowledged the case hasn’t been an “easy thing” for the Mr Selfridge actress to go through.

After six months of investigating, the probe has ruled that 34-year-old Giovanni did not exhibit “physical aggression” towards Amanda 50. It’s understood of the 16 complaints filed by the mother-of-two, six have been upheld.

Some of the complaints were for Giovanni using swear words, with the report describing the language could have been seen as “belittling” by his ex-Strictly partner. Two moments of “inappropriate behaviour of sexual banter in the workplace” were also found upheld.

In a statement, the BBC said they take “any allegations of bullying and harassment very seriously”. The broadcaster also explained the probe has taken six months due to its “complex nature and our desire to ensure a rigorous and robust process was undertaken.

"Strictly Come Dancing is a family show and we rightly expect very high standards. While competition can be tough, rigorous and demanding, we want the show to ultimately be a joyous and transformative experience. It is a great shame if this hasn't been the case for everyone who has appeared on the show.

"We have assessed the complaints and we have upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made,” the broadcaster continued. “We want to apologise to Amanda Abbington and to thank her for coming forward and taking part. We know this would not have been an easy thing to do."

Following the conclusion of the probe, Amanda has said she hopes no other celebrity will be subjected to the “ordeal” she has experienced amid the investigation.

“As the BBC has indicated today in its statement, my decision to come forward and complain about Giovanni Pernice’s conduct towards me was not an easy thing to do,” she said.

“In the days, weeks and months since I contacted the BBC, I’ve been accused of being a liar, a troublemaker and of being “mad and unstable”. I’ve also received rape and murder threats and a bomb threat was sent to my place of work. My family and children have also been subjected to threats and intimidation.”

Amanda claims that despite the “vile abuse” she does not regret “coming forward” regarding the behaviour she was subjected to late last year.

“I hope those who have felt unable to speak out now will be more confident that they will be listened to and believed,” she continued. “The BBC has invited me to meet with senior management and this is something I will now be considering."

She added that the cooperation’s apology meant a “great deal” to her as well as the steps that were put in place to support her through the troubling time.

“What matters most now is that lessons have been learned and that the BBC makes the changes they’ve promised, to ensure others don’t experience the same ordeal that I and others like me did.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson has said Giovanni is “pleased” by the professional review.

“From the outset, Giovanni has rejected any claims of threatening or abusive behaviour,” reports MailOnline.

“While it appreciates that the BBC has likely decided to uphold some allegations to avoid the accusations of a 'whitewash' – they've upheld the weakest allegations put to him.'

Amanda initially pulled out of the 21st season of Strictly citing “personal reasons”, later claiming she had been subjected to “inappropriate, mean, nasty bullying”.
