Emmerdale spoilers: Charity Dingle star teases ‘ENORMOUS' consequences for baby son twist
EMMERDALE staple Charity Dingle shared the truth about giving birth to a baby son with her girlfriend Vanessa Woodfield during tonight’s gripping episode of the ITV soap, but as it was revealed the child had actually survived actress Emma Atkins has confessed things are about to get incredibly complicated for her character.
Emmerdale: Charity's baby boy revealed to be ALIVE
The landmark episode of Emmerdale featured flashbacks to Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) past as a teenager trapped under DI Mark Bails’ (Rocky Marshal) control.
The mother-of-four has undergone a harrowing storyline on the ITV soap in recent months, as the truth was revealed about her abuse at the hands of the sick police officer.
Viewers then caught a glimpse of a young Charity fighting to escape from DI Bails, who not only raped her himself but allowed his colleagues to come round and abuse her too.
Charity’s scenes were heartbreaking enough but in an upsetting twist, it turned out her baby son had actually survived.
Convinced her little one had flatlined on the hospital table, Charity sobbed as she told her girlfriend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) she couldn’t bear to see him in that state.
The pub landlord ran away but a final scene showed Charity’s midwife revisiting the baby alive in an incubator.
Speaking about her character’s latest plot, actress Emma shared: “I think the fact she was convinced that this child never survived, the shock impact will be huge, and the audience will clearly be waiting for that moment."
Continuing to explain what’s to come, the Charity star told What’s On TV: “It is a big moment in her life, to discover her child did actually survive.
“What would anyone think? You just have to be human to know that would knock anyone west.”
Emma went on to say fans can expect some serious consequences for the normally strong character, saying: “It’s such an enormity. The gravity of that is huge.”

If Charity’s son does return to the Yorkshire Dales the Dingle clan will get even bigger.
Excited about the prospect, Emma continued: “It’s an amazing idea; I got chills.
“There’s an episode when Charity’s face to face with her past in some shape or form, and it’s remarkable. Personally, I was overjoyed there was something else we were going to visit.”
How will Charity react when she discovers her son is still alive? Aged 28, the character could even have been hiding in plain sight in the village already.
Some fans are convinced Charity’s midwife adopted the infant, but others think minor characters could be hiding a secret identity instead.
Exploding on Twitter as the episode came to an end, fans could barely contain their excitement over the storyline.
One person shared: “I reckon Charity’s son has been living with that midwife all this time, and that’s why she’s happy to speak to Harriet #Emmerdale.”
“BET THE MIDWIFE ADOPTED HIM AHHHH #emmerdale,” another fan wrote.
A third excited fan asked: “Could Charity’s baby be Simon the drug dealer?! #Emmerdale”
