EASTENDERS fans were left devastated when Shakil Kazemi was fatally stabbed last week and tragically died from his injuries in Friday night’s episode. Now, it has been revealed how his mother Carmel will deal with her loss.
EastEnders: Carmel breaks down when she sees Shakil's body
In upcoming scenes on EastEnders, Carmel (played by Bonnie Langford) will make a big decision about her son’s death.
She will decide to honour Shakil (Shaheen Jafargholi) by launching an important campaign.
Heartbroken by his death, she will pledge to get knives off the streets of Walford.
Carmel is hopeful that she will be able to prevent another death due to violent crime.
Her first move is to put a home-made bin for people to surrender knives in the community centre.
Carmel hopes that it will help people to think about giving up their weapons.
Fans will see Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) offer his support by arranging a meeting with a local MP.
However, his efforts to support Carmel lead to a disagreement later in the week.
Carmel begins to worry that Ian’s methods of preventing knife crime will actually make the situation worse.
Furthermore, her decision to provide a knife surrender box is questioned by the locals.
Carmel goes through a rollercoaster of emotions.
As Carmel tries to honour Shakil’s life with her anti-knife crime campaign, it all becomes a bit too much for her.
Will she buckle under the pressure from the Albert Square residents?
The scenes are set to air after Carmel struggles to go on with her life after Shakil’s passing.
In upcoming episodes on the BBC soap, she will try to take her own life.
Speaking about how Carmel is coping, soap star Bonnie told Radio Times: “Carmel goes through a rollercoaster of emotions.
“She is in shock and completely lost.
“She loved Shakil so much, he was her baby and she feels this huge guilt because she was away at the time enjoying herself.”
The actress added: “She’s looking for someone to blame, and feels these young people don’t understand the consequence of acting out of anger, or status, pride or greed.
“She thinks that they have no respect for their own lives or anyone else’s.”
EastEnders airs tonight on BBC One at 7.30pm.
