The director behind ITV’s new six-part drama has opened up about getting a warning from her pals not to write about them.
Speaking to press including Express.co.uk, the 66-year-old admitted that she once forgot to change a friend’s name before a show went out based on them.
“I think they filter what they tell me these days to be honest with you,” Kay commented. “I’ve had friends say, ‘Don’t write this Kay’. But they know I’m a writer.”
The Fat Friends star says she was left mortified when she forgot to cover her tracks, but thankfully her confidant was “flattered”.

Kay continued: “I did once write something and I remember thinking, ‘Oh I must change their name, I’ll do it with a quick spellcheck,’ and I forgot. And it went out.
“The next morning I got a call and I went, ‘Hello’, and she went, ‘It’s me, you wrote about me, I watched it last night’.”
But, Kay added: “I said, ‘I’m so sorry, what can I do to make it better?’ and she went, ‘I’m flattered,’ so it all turned out alright. She had a young lover, so that was a nice story I suppose for her.”
