Mick Carter is well known for his cockney rhyming slang, but the character had EastEnders fans in stitches last night after recommending his wife Linda (Kellie Bright) had a cup of “lesbian tea”.
The on-screen couple had sat down to discuss their impending vow renewal on Christmas Day, when Mick suddenly announced that he had to nip out.
Ever the thoughtful husband, as he made his exit, Mick told a stressed out Linda: “You can have a nice lesbian tea, sort your nut out, and when I get back, we’ll attack the rest of it.”
Puzzled viewers flocked to Twitter to share their confusion about what the mysterious drink could be.

Meanwhile, a shocked viewer tweeted: “Pretty sure Danny Dyer’s character on EastEnders just told someone to chill out and have a ‘lesbian tea’.”
A helpful fan soon cleared the matter up, writing: “#EastEnders - for anyone vaguely interested, Urban Dictionary defines ‘lesbian tea’ as the fruit infusion teas you can get from all good retailers.”

A definition of lesbian tea found on Urban Dictionary defined the beverage as: “Any tea that isn’t tea, especially fruit infusions e.g. raspberry nettle and sukebind tea, also known as differently-oriented tea.”
So it looks like fans of the BBC soap could be forgiven for not being familiar with the unusual term.
EastEnders continues tomorrow night on BBC One at 7.30pm.
