REAL LIFE: Cheetah Man
OF all Africa’s felines, it is the cheetah that is the most vulnerable.
Four years ago, Frenchman Olivier Houalet adopted five orphaned male cheetah cubs – Ra, Kia, Mushara, Lindt and Cadbury – living at the Amani refuge and rehabilitation centre near the Namibian capital of Windhoek.
When Houalet realised the quintet would struggle to survive on their own in the wild, he embarked on a groundbreaking experiment to prepare them for re-release.
He adopted the animals’ body language to such an extent that he is now accepted as one of the group.
This documentary follows him as he prepares the animals for release into the wild, teaching them hunting and survival skills that will be vital in avoiding predators and livestock farmers.
