EMMERDALE star John McArdle has spoken out following the shock exit of his character Ronnie Hale.
Emmerdale cliffhanger as Ronnie departs on a train
After months of speculation, Ronnie finally fled the Yorkshire village following on from a particularly explosive time with the White family.
John, who joined Emmerdale in 2016, has now revealed why Ronnie made such a sudden departure amid his wedding plans to Lawrence White (played by John Dowe).
“He’s had enough with Lawrence lying to him, keeping things from him and being mistrustful,” John stressed. “He couldn’t take that anymore.
“And also, his family is crazy. The Whites are completely crazy and he’s had to put up with that for a while.”

However, John did stress that Ronnie could well return to Emmerdale, hinting that the Lawrence and Ronnie love story is far from over.
“Oh definitely, he’s still in love with Lawrence, love of his life and everything,” assured John. “It broke his heart to leave.
“It was a very hard decision for him to make but he had to make it or it would have been torture. He’s very much still in love with Lawrence.”

He continued: “Ronnie could come back at any time, he’s got loads of friends in the village - especially with the Dingles.”
Ronnie’s abrupt exit comes as Lawrence will also be leaving Emmerdale, with reports suggesting he’ll be killed by his son Lachlan White (Thomas Atkinson).
What’s more, Chrissie White (Louise Marwood) and Lachlan are also thought to be bowing out of the ITV soap in a dramatic storyline later this year.
Emmerdale continues tomorrow night at 7pm on ITV.
