The Game of Thrones star took part in the BBC anthology series, where he learned that his father Walter was born in 1874, making him 72-year-old when Dance’s mother gave birth.
What’s more, the famed thespian also learned that his father had two daughters, which he never knew about.
The usually composed star was left close to tears as he learnt the devastating story of his biological sisters who were born almost 50 years before he was.
As he discovered that one of the girls died in tragic circumstances, the actor said: "It's rather extraordinary to know that here in my 70th year, I am only finding out about all of this now.

Charles discovered that his father was a Boer War hero
There is something about this that I do find quite moving
"There is something about this that I do find quite moving," Dance added.
Throughout tonight's gripping episode, the 70-year-old also discovered that his father was a hero in the Boer War, serving during the most brutal guerrilla phase of the battle.
Walter Dance was awarded a campaign medal after being involved in a "physical and psychologically demanding" hunt for saboteurs.
However, there was a more shocking discovery to come as the war hero's next of kin were recorded as his wife Louie and daughter Norah, who was born in December 1898.
His sister, Norah, was born 48 years before he was
Clearly emotional, Dance said: "I have a sister, I see, right. I have to say this is quite moving, because I know so little.
So gradually, bit by bit, we are finding out about the life of a man who I just knew by his name WD," he added.
In a heartbreaking scene, Dance learned that his second half-sister, Mary, was born in 1903 but killed at the tiny age of five after being hit by a scaffolding pole.
Taking in all of the shocking news, Dance said: "It is overwhelmingly sad and I don't think, as a parent, that one would ever get over something like that."
Charles Dance's Who Do You Think You Are? episode airs tonight on BBC One at 9pm.
