John Bradley has teased fans with details of his character Samwell Tarly's role in the show suggesting that he is an important player when it comes to how the series will end.
Speaking on The Times' Walking the Dog podcast, he let slip that it's necessary to keep Sam alive.
"The thing about Sam is, if he's still around at this stage, you do suspect that there is gonna be a point to keeping him around," he told host Emily Dean.
It comes after John hinted that Sam believes his family's Valyrian steel sword will help to defeat the White Walkers.

"I think taking the sword was a symbolic gesture of taking what's his," he told TV & Satellite magazine.
"He knows only too well that the sword is wasted if it stays in Horn Hill. If it's just an ornament then it's not going to do the good he knows he can do with it."
Viewers last saw Sam arrive at the Citadel where he is hoping to become a Maester for the Night's Watch.

John also believes that there's a much more important reason as to why he is there.
"It's not that he wants to go to the Citadel to have a comfortable life," he explained.
"He genuinely feels he can make a difference, and he wants to, because he's a very good and proactive character.
"He knows he can't make a difference in the conventional way, or in the battlefield. But he can make a difference here."
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on July 16 and will air in the UK on Sky Atlantic on July 17.
