Patrick Holland, the controller of BBC Two, appears to have confirmed that Matt will return to the motoring series in 2018 along with Rory Reid and Chris Harris.
During a recent interview, Patrick was asked whether they would all be coming back and simply answered: "Yes, very much so."
The latest season of the hit motoring ended on Sunday with an average audience of 1.9 million, something that Patrick described as "healthy".
BBC Two bosses have confirmed that the trio will return for another hosting stint
The trio have gained a younger audience this series
We've got a much healthier audience this year
"We've got a much healthier audience this year. The response to the show has been much more positive,” he explained.
"Audience appreciation scores are far higher than last year. It's a big show for BBC Two," Patrick added.
Patrick continued that Matt’s version of Top Gear should not be compared to the successes of Jeremy Clarkson's edition.
Patrick revealed that popular Matt LeBlanc will be back
Rory Reid and Chris Harris will also return, according to Patrick
He insisted: "You can't compare it with that show. That was Jeremy and James and Richard's show, that was then, we're now. You're looking at two completely different shows.
"Chris and Rory have been fantastic and Matt has been terrific in the films and he's really started to enjoy the studios more and more," Patrick continued.
"The audience is younger. Young people really love the new Top Gear. Chris and Rory have really grown and Matt has made it his own."
