UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE witnessed one of its fiercest battles during last night's episode which stunned audiences on social media.

In the hotly contested semi-final, Wolfson College and Emmanuel College, both part of Cambridge University, battled for a place in the final.
Two contestants in particular set Twitter alight as they battled for glory, but it was Wolfson that edged ahead, winning the semi-final 170 to 140.
Eric Monkman of Wolfson College has become the star of the BBC show with his bellowing voice and remarkable knowledge.
The 29-year-old has already made waves with audiences as some have called him the "most intense contestant" ever.
However, before storming to victory, he had to face his rival, Bobby Seagull of Emmanuel.

Although giving a good fight, Seagull could not match Monkman who led from the front.
By the end of the instalment, even Jeremy Paxman looked sad bringing the exciting show to a close.
He said to both teams: "I will say only that you guys - all of you, of whatever gender - are very, very clever."
University Challenge fans took to Twitter to celebrate Monkman and his team's victory, with one posting: "#UniversityChallenge in these dark days I sincerely believe Monkman has been put here to save us from all of this."
Another avid viewer added: "Do you know what's cooler than Monkman? NOTHING!! Absolutely NOTHING!! #UniversityChallenge."

Monkman took to Twitter to show he is friends with Seagull
A third joked: "Legend has it #Monkman has no esc key on his keyboard because there is no escape from Monkman. #UniversityChallenge."
Monkman himself took to Twitter to show there was no love lost with his great rival, posting a picture of the pair sharing a hug with the caption: "After the match, we got up to shake hands, but spontaneously did this. Hoped it would be shown in the credits. Recreated it for you instead."
University Challenge continues on Monday at 8pm on BBC Two.
