Peaky Blinders Spoiler alert
The 39-year-old actor was pictured on Dublin Street in Liverpool wearing a period outfit similar to those featured in the hit TV series.
BBC's gangster drama, which has already been recommissioned for a fifth season, is set in 1920s Birmingham but most of the filming takes place in Toxteth, Merseyside.
Not the best of friends with Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy), sparks will surely fly when the programme returns in October.
Writer Steven Knight promised: “We couldn’t do it without Alfie,” leaving fans delighted at Hardy's role reprisal.

Murphy added that “everything has changed” for the Peaky Blinders in the new series.
He said: “I think [Tommy’s] family think that he’s betrayed them. It’ll be up to Tommy to demonstrate to them that he hasn’t betrayed them and that he has a bigger plan.
"The question is what that bigger plan is. Who is he gonna call? What’s gonna happen to the family? Can he ever get that level of trust or love back again?”
Season three’s shocking finale saw Shelby inform his family that they were all about to be arrested.

In the closing scene, Polly (Helen McCrory), Arthur (Paul Anderson), Michael (Finn Cole) and John (Joe Cole) were all dragged away by police to jail.
Cole has yet to be spotted on set, leading fans to speculate his character is still in prison for blowing up a train.
Tommy, Arthur and youngest brother Finn (Harry Kirton) are seen walking free, suggesting they have evaded prison time.
Meanwhile, Arthur’s wife Linda (Kate Phillips) was spotted being driven in a 1920s-style car yesterday, also seemingly confirming her return to the show.
Peaky Blinders is expected to return to BBC Two in October.
