As he took to the stage, the star plummeted down a set of stairs after getting stuck on a rising platform.
The planned slapstick entrance got huge laughs from the star-studded crowd.
He then continued to perform a planned routine with some dancers before shouting to stop, exclaiming: "This is a disaster!
The star immediately fell down a well-placed hole on the stairs

"This is the Grammy's, people. We can't allow these sort of mistakes. I mean, come on," James continued.
Wearing only one shoe, the 38-year-old performed a rap instead of the now-traditional opening monologue.
After discussing the likes of Rihanna and Drake, the presenter ended with a swipe at President Donald Trump, saying: "Living this up because this is the best, because with President Trump we don't know what's next!"

James later appeared on the show in just his underwear after Twenty One Pilots accepted their award for Best Pop Duo/Group.
They claimed they always said they would accept the Grammy in their underwear if they were ever to win one.
It was at this point that James refused to be outdone, and was later seen presenting in his underwear, pink socks and tuxedo jacket.
