Fans of the show then had to wait another two episodes until they got to see him again when he was locked up in a cell at The Sanctuary.
He could be seen curled up in a ball after being stripped naked and forced to listen to the incredibly annoying song Easy Street.
The track was played in his cell on a loop in an attempt to break him and convince him to work with Negan.
But, it has been revealed that the song is part of a continuity error.

I was in a hole by myself, naked. It just did not feel right to me.
The track was released by The Collapsable Hearts Club in November 2016, which means Rick Grimes and his group would have had to time travel three years into the future to hear it.
While the series has moved along at great speed, the Alexandrians have still not reached 2016 in the television adaption.
Uproxx noted that the zombie apocalypse started in winter 2012, which means the song Easy Street would not have existed as part of The Walking Dead.
Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl in the AMC series, recently revealed that he hated filming his scenes in The Sanctuary without his friends.

"I’d talk to [Scott] Gimple, and I’d be like, ‘Man, this sucks. I hate this’. And he’d be like, ‘You’re supposed to’. I’m like, ‘Oh, there you go’. You know what I mean?
"He was right. It was supposed to suck, and it did suck - for me, anyway. But you know, it just makes coming back together that much more special."
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on February 12 in the US and airs the following day on FOX UK.
